Ercan flights are amazingly cheap considering the distance from the UK and Western Europe. In order to secure the cheapest airfare to Northern Cyprus, you must book early, as the most affordable seats are quickly sold out.
For independent travellers there is an airport bus which connects to Kyrenia, Nicosia or Famagusta. Better still many hotels offer complementary transfers and, if you plan to hire a car, the car hire company too will either drop off your car at the airport for your arrival or pick up and take you to the office.
Remember on arrival there is an option to have your passport stamped but most prefer to fill in the small visa slip with name, nationality and passport number. For UK passengers it is stamped with a 90 day stamp allowing visitors to stay in the country for a length of 90 days. Keep this visa slip safe with your passport until you leave.
Flying into the south, especially into Larnaca, is also possible. This increase the flight options available and allows a bigger choice based on cost or simply convenient flight times. Travelling from Larnaca to the north is quite quick along good motorways. The transfer time is less than 30 minutes longer than from Ercan.
British Airways, Thomson, Easyjet and Jet2: Offers flights to Cyprus (Larnaca or Paphos) from Gatwick, Luton and Manchester.
British Airways and Cyprus Airways: Offers flights to Cyprus (Larnaca or Paphos) from Heathrow, Gatwick, Manchester, Belfast and Glasgow.
Although there is an airport bus service between Larnaca and Nicosia it stops well short of the border and a further taxi ride is required. It is far easier to arrange airport transfers through your hotel or your car hire company in the North for which there will be a charge. Crossing to the north requires only your passport and again, a visa slip to complete. Taxi drivers usually carry a supply of slips to fill in before reaching passport control.
Paphos airport in the south offers another option and many of the low cost carriers fly into Paphos. Again, your pick up needs to be organised from the north in advance. The distance is far greater and the transfer time can be up to three hours which is reflected in the cost.
Flights to Northern Cyprus during the winter period from November to the end of March are cheaper, starting at just £140 per person. From April to the end of October, prices range from £150 to £396. As always, it is advisable to book early.
